We have filed patents for a novel assay for predicting the occurrence of a cytokine storm. This in vitro assay uses human whole blood and endothelial samples to more accurately simulate clinical conditions. Cytokine Storms are an anomalous immune reaction whereby overactive immune cells release excessive amounts of cytokines. Treatments using biologic response modifiers (or biologics) can cause cytokine storms, which are potentially fatal. To date, there are no tests to accurately quantify immune reactions to biologics. This is a first-in-class technology, capable of radically improving preclinical screening of potential therapies by providing both qualitative and quantitative data. We are currently looking for co-development or licensing partners.
