Biomimetic for regulating metabolism

About

Researchers have developed a prodrug targetting a set of receptors in the gut involved in regulating appetite and food intake. The prodrug has been designed to deliver propionate, a molecule known to activate the receptors. We have filed patents for use of the prodrug in weight management. First-in-human studies have found that short-term treatments can lead to a decrease in food intake. Long term studies found that taking propionate led to decreased weight gain compared to control groups, as well as improved glucose homeostasis. This technology is now available for co-development and licensing.
