The average woman spends £40,000 on her hair in her lifetime. Haircare is a big business, and there are always new and exciting haircare technologies to make looking after one’s hair easier. One of the most important hair technology innovations to transform how women care for their hair concerns hair dye since many women love to colour their hair. Research by vouchercloud.com found that 17 percent of women who colour their hair don’t know what their natural hair colour is! That just shows how long they’ve been colouring it. Dyeing one’s hair takes approximately 45 minutes, but scientists are working on technology that quickens hair-dyeing time and offers hair dye without peroxide. Grey hair is covered within a few minutes, without harmful peroxide that can damage hair. Here are other hair technology innovations worth knowing about.

Customized hair care

There’ve been many haircare apps for women to see what they would look like with different hairstyles and hair colour, but Schwarzkopf Professional SalonLab is a haircare system that takes hair apps to a new level. SalonLab makes use of a handheld device called the SalonLab Analyzer. How it works is that the hairstylist uses this device to scan clients’ hair. The device uses light sensors to measure a variety of hair factors, such as true hair colour and the hair’s level of moisture. This information is sent to an app on the stylist’s smartphone. It can also be viewed in 3D videos on the app, showing the client what their hair needs to be its healthiest. The data is then sent to the salon’s SalonLab Customizer, which is basically a machine that whips up a customised haircare product for the customer. Haircare doesn’t come standard, so it’s important to take into account a client’s specific hair needs. This exciting hair technology is going to be in salons throughout Europe and the US later this year.

Supersonic hair drying

Using heated hairstyling tools too often causes hair damage in the form of brittle, dry strands. It’s not easy to avoid using a hairdryer, but now you don’t have to. The Dyson SuperSonic is a haircare innovation that prevents hair damage by regulating its heat every 20 seconds. It also makes drying your hair much faster, with its constant stream of high-velocity air. You can attach different nozzles to it, such as the “smoothing nozzle” for shiny, smooth hair, and the “styling concentrator” that allow you to style your hair while you dry it.

If you have curly hair, you know how important it is to use a diffuser on your curls. A diffuser is the best heated styling tool to maintain your beautiful curls. The Dyson SuperSonic has a diffuser that spreads air evenly over hair, improving their definition and avoiding frizzy hair days without heat damage. So you can enjoy a good hair day every day.

Anti-ageing haircare

You care about keeping your skin youthful, but what about your hair? Over time, hair can lose its protein structures and become thinner. There are many ways to keep your hair youthful, and now scientists have developed principles of biotechnology that are based on anti-ageing skincare products to make hair healthier.

An example is the Salon Science range of haircare that uses plant stem cells in their products. These plant stem cells enter the hair follicles where they work to strengthen hair. According to a survey by Salon Science, 61 percent of people who used their Cellucovery Scalp Treatment experienced thicker and stronger hair in a month.

Stem cells are being tested for other haircare uses too, such as reversing baldness. This is an exciting prospect since eight million women in the UK are experiencing hair loss. Yale researchers have discovered that stem cells in the skin’s fat send out signals to “tell” hair to grow. The study, which was published in Cell journal, found that studies on mice have been promising. They’re now working on using this to stimulate the growth of human hair.

Women care about their hair and want it to look their best. With haircare technology innovations such as the above, hair is easier to colour and style, while being better cared for, making the future of haircare exciting.
