Low cost silicon-based mid and far infrared detector for gas detection and thermal imaging Current mid and far IR detectors operating above 2µm are based on toxic materials and are difficult and expensive to make. This is a new class of cheap, non-toxic detector based on silicon using conventional fabrication techniques that could replace mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) and other similar detectors. Applications include thermal imaging, night sights and gas detection. Status: Patent pending.
