This invention is a smartphone application which was created to improve the communication that occurs between physicians and families within the pediatric department. The application includes two encyclopedias written by residents from the pediatric department which provide basic information on child care and medical diagnoses. The conditions encyclopedia helps parents learn about the symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, and prevention methods of recently diagnosed diseases in their children. The application has pictures and sound bites of various anxiety-producing locations within the hospital. The goal of this is to help prepare patients for a smooth and enjoyable hospital stay. Finally, there is community information for various resources including: food stamps, free diapers, etc. The goal of the application is to give parents more information in a helpful way and decrease anxiety.
Having young children in the hospital can be a devastating moment for families.
