New voxel modelling technique for the design and manufacture of 3D objects using multi-material printing.
This invention allows 3D model data for fabrication of an object with additive manufacturing in a way that eliminates the computational expensive of “boundary representations” and traditional “voxel representations”. The software methods that have been developed have multiple advantages including : - Digital models can be exported at any resolution for advanced multi-material additive manufacturing whereby physical structures have seamless material gradations. - 3D designs can be explored and optimised using state-of-the-art neuro-evolution algorithms - 3D designs can be manipulated at various levels of granularity in accordance with the design stage. A key feature of our new technology is how it rework traditional CAD representation schemes to leverage neural network-based representation schemes. This method currently provides significant benefits in navigating and discovering useful 3D designs. However, this method is also extremely well placed to exploit many future advances relating to machine learning and neural networks.
