Summary

Background

Our Technology division provides a suite of services in the design, maturation and implementation of new technologies and engineering services for sustainable energy production around the world.

We do this by helping organisations at all stages of their project lifecycle to assess, test, and implement world-class innovations to support plant optimisations; lowering the costs of production; and reducing the environmental impact of operations. We work closely with a network of global partners to create opportunities for a more sustainable energy future.

Challenge

Our client, a Global Oil & Gas company, is currently looking for market ready technologies to improve the safety and efficiency of handling steel tubes.

The client is removing hundreds of tonnes of steel infrastructure as part of a decommissioning programme for subsea oil and gas production facilities. Steel tubes will be removed from the marine environment, and it will be transported to shore where it will be further processed. However, the logistics between removal from the marine environment and transport to shore can be challenging. The tubes will need to be sorted, possibly cut to size, and bundled to allow for easy transport. This can involve inherently dangerous manual handling, in a potentially space restricted work area on a marine vessel.

In this regard, our client is looking for any innovations that may help increase the safety and efficiency of the process to remove steel tubes from submarine infrastructure and prepare it for easy transportation. Ideally the solution should minimise manual handling as much as practicable.
