Summary

Background

Aditya Birla Group (ABG) is a USD 48 Bn Conglomerate with global footprint in businesses such as Textiles, Fashion, VSF, Metals & Mining, Cement, Chemicals etc. ABG group companies are market leaders in all the business segments they operate in India. Also, globally they are within top 10 of the leading players. Considered as a manufacturing powerhouse, it is one of the biggest energy consumers and a leading player in renewables in India.

Challenge

ABG companies are one of the biggest energy consumers in India, as they have highly energy intensive processes at the heart of manufacturing. Increased usage of Renewable energy is a key initiative which is rapidly transforming the energy mix across group businesses.

ABG itself has a subsidiary, Aditya Birla Renewables, which provides turnkey solutions for Renewable Energy plants and PPA (Power Purchase Agreements) based engagement options.

Key challenge with Renewable energy is 24/7 availability, as most of the ABG manufacturing is continuous processes with 24/7 operation of critical processes being the topmost priority.

For this purpose, we are open to evaluate both Renewable Generation + Storage as well as only Storage Options, as we intend to reduce our dependence on grids and balance our captive power plants load in a cost-effective manner (For plants in India).

 1. For Renewable Generation + Storage, we are looking for 5-50 MW generation and storage for Minimum 4 Hours (With Round trip efficiency more than 80%). Any form of renewables (Except PV Solar and Wind, as we already have the expertise with us), if it can provide a cost effective per kWh cost can be explored.

For storing as Thermal Energy, efficiency may be lesser.

2. For only storage, requirement is minimum 5-50 MW storage for Minimum 4 Hours, with high system efficiency (More than 80%).

For storing as Thermal Energy, efficiency may be lesser.

What's in it for you?

A successful collaboration could mean, forming a partnership to co-develop the technology and a scale-up opportunity with various engagement models.

This is a global challenge and ABG is willing to engage with Start-ups, Organizations or universities etc. and solutions can be at preferable at least at demo/pilot stage of development.
