Irving Shipbuilding Inc. Vice President – Fleetway Inc. and Oceanic Consulting Corporation - Jan 2016 – August 2018 • Brought in to lead and reinvigorate two marine engineering companies of the JD Irving group that the owners considered could do more. Assumed control of all aspects of company performance with full P&L responsibility. • Company operates within the defence and B2B sectors, supplying engineering, design, support logistics, technical data management and project execution services. • Developed new strategy to plug the immediate gap in profit and provide for long term growth. This supported a core vision of doubling the revenue and cash generation within 5 years. • Implemented new company structure, drove delivery and overhead controls, grew headcount from 168 to 320 at increased utilization within 2 years. • Turned a negative 50% yr/yr profit expectation for Yr 1 into delivery of business plan +23% Yr 1 and +58% by Yr 2. BMT Scientific Marine Services Inc. Chief Operating Officer - Jan 2013 - Jan 2016 (Board member and Company Secretary) • Brought in by Group headquarters to facilitate growth in operations and expansion of O&G company activities • Designed and implemented new structure to allow exploitation of significantly larger projects and more project volume • Doubled company headcount on the back of contracted work and revenue growth. • Delivered 250% increase in project output in year 2 • Introduced professional management /project management techniques, which increased profits and success • Developed, implemented and incorporated Brazilian subsidiary into BMT USA based structure. Ocean Power Technologies – Jan 2009 – Jan 2013 Senior VP & Chief Technology Officer • Day to day executive management of OPT as part of the senior management team and company officer, with P&L responsibility for Autonomous Power Business Unit • Responsible for all Projects and Operational activities, technology development, engineering design (Elec, Mech, Advanced Technology, software), manufacturing, supply and project management activities for the company • Implemented complete overhaul of Engineering and Project management systems and implemented Stage-Gate development process, reduced design timelines and costs in development, implementation and production costs, designed and implemented rigorous quality systems, designed and implemented full Project Management Office. • Support and lead international business development activities, building business across the grid utility, military, academic and maritime industries. • Major successes: Design and deployment of first large scale PB150 Utility PowerBuoy and design and deployment of military LEAP PowerBuoy product with US Navy assessment “…excellence and exemplary performance throughout the project”. Global Marine Systems Ltd June 2000 – Jan 2009 Engineering Director (GMSL) / VP Planning and Design (Huawei Marine) • Day to day management of GMSL and Huawei Marine (China based) as part of the Senior Management Team • Corporate re-organization design and implementation of new structure after purchase by Private Equity • Direction of delivery and Engineering functions within the company; Design, R&D, Engineering, Project management, Reporting, Manufacturing, Charting, software, IS and Training • Transitioned key product development and manufacturing to China, key role in initial business development and then setting up JV with major telecoms equipment provider (Huawei) and latterly assumed VP role within JV • Led and implemented broad based specified projects for the CEO – e.g. Commercial evaluations of external business opportunities and companies, business planning / modelling, technical appraisals of external opportunities, internal and external corporate and technical audits / change programs, technical modelling and developments, process and team appraisal and re-design. • Integration and development of new technology company acquisitions and adoption, development and final delivery of new (optical, electronic, mechanical) technology. Global Marine Systems Ltd Dec. 2002 – June 2005 - Senior Product Development Manager • Led the company’s team of product managers to protect and develop our core product lines and diversify into Oil and Gas, Offshore Power, Renewable Energy, Regional Networking. • Responsible for finding and implementing (rapidly) new business avenues for our assets after collapse of our traditional marine telecoms market. • All elements of establishment of JV between GM and US based company to form O&G Contractor Company. Began process of JV between GM and Dutch based company for wind farm installations. • Key achievement: Conceived of, designed, planned and delivered full company diversification into the oil and gas industry, leading to revenues of >$5.5M in the first 4 months, paying back all invested capital. Global Marine Systems Ltd 2000-2002 - General Manager – R&D • Responsible for core budget with access to further multi-million CAPEX budget by bid. • Identify technology gaps and opportunities for differentiator development in the business. • Managed a core team of 6-12 project managers, engineers and support staff, and multiple worldwide project teams (varying between 20-40 people). • Designed and implemented a company wide development strategy and stage-gate development process in line with current R&D best practice approaches. • Led teams which developed key electronic, electrical, mechanical and computer based equipment/software that increased the capability and effectiveness of the company, such as the DeepGrab ROV tool (an industry first deep buried cable retrieval equipment). Prior Roles: 1982-1999 Cranfield University - Project manager / Researcher • Supervised a team of 3 research scientists / engineers / students and 2 technical support staff for delivery of project results to Oil and Gas consortium (Statoil, Norsk Hydro, Texaco, BP - Amoco, Mobil and others).
