10Power provides solar project development and finance for commercial-scale projects in markets without reliable electricity, partnering locally with a gender empowerment lens.

About

10Power develops and finances solar projects creating regenerative growth, reducing global carbon emissions, and economically empowering stakeholders. 10Power’s systems-thinking approach to sustainable development: * Focuses on uplifting local people * Drives economic growth with commercial-scale renewable energy projects * Is replicable across markets that lack access to electricity * Supports equitable access to healthcare, clean water, education, technology and decent work * Demonstrates gender empowerment 10Power is working in Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas and seventh poorest country on the planet, where close to 70% of the population has no access to electricity. We have provided solar for UNICEF Haiti's Headquarters - the largest solar installation on any UNICEF base in the world to date and the first with renewable generation and storage capacity capable of powering all operations. 10Power has also successfully provided solar and energy storage to water purification centers providing clean drinking water to surrounding communities and offering free drinking water to schools. These centers are preventing cholera and dysentery, in-turn they are supporting 600 majority women-owned micro-enterprises. We have also recently completed a solar powered water desalination project that is providing clean drinking water to up to 40,000 people in La Gonave, Haiti. 10Power is a certified UN Energy Access Practitioner.

Key Benefits

Energy is the backbone for advancement in quality of life, yet 13% of humanity, 940 million people, lack adequate access to electricity. Without power, it is impossible to provide running water, modernized healthcare, to refrigerate food or vaccines, or access information technology to participate in global markets. Growth in energy demand in non-OECD economies is projected to increase by 71% by 2040. Humanity stands at the most crucial juncture of the Anthropocene – if we continue to sink billions into path-dependency on fossil-fuel based energy infrastructure, degrading well-being and increasing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), all creatures will suffer. Climate change is taking a disproportionate toll on the most vulnerable populations, BIPOC communities, women, children in the world’s frontline communities who have contributed the least and benefited the least from the exploitation of earth’s resources and combustion of fossil fuels. In order to keep global warming to under 1.5 degrees C, and prevent the worst case scenarios outlined by the International Panel on Climate Change, it is crucial to decouple emissions from prosperity creation and improvements in quality of life. This growth in energy demand must be met with renewable energy, and will create drastic improvements in prosperity, creating a new paradigm for regenerative development and climate restoration.

Applications

Reliable electricity is crucial for providing goods and services down to fundamentals such as clean drinking water and healthcare, powering everything from ventilators and sterilization equipment to refrigeration and lights.
