This tool enables the realistic, accurate prediction of aircraft position over many hours of the en-route phase. It has been tested against operation data acquired during a real flight trial; the performance errors are impressive, as follows. Along-track error: mean 255.6m (0.14nm); max 726.9m (0.39nm) Cross-track error: mean 8.6m (0.005nm); max 331.5m (0.18nm) Altitude error: mean 1.6m (5.25ft); max 116.0m (380.6ft) The tool considers factors such as maximising use of the aircraft intent information, accounting in the flight plan for ground-speed constraints at each waypoint, accounting for aircraft operational limits in meeting aircraft intent and making advance use of environmental parameters.
