Rapid detection of varroa in ports and transport hubs in real-time using direct attraction of bees to a syrup feeder, using ultra-high resolution macro imagery and Machine Learning

About

StrikeBack Tackle and its associated arm, Fat Bees, in association with Emigrad and Dr Stefan Bird, work together to create solutions to environmental challenges. We have been successful in putting into operation in large-scale plant eradication projects (West Kimberley Rubber Vine Eradication Project), detection of environmental targets using ultra-high resolution aerial imagery(5mm GSD) and more recently macro images ( 2500 pixels per varroa mite) using machine learning to reliably detect specified targets.

Key Benefits

Aquila BeeSentry provides rapid detection of varroa destructor in shipping ports and other transport hubs, and specifically transport hubs between Eastern Australia and Western Australia to rapidly detect incursions of varroa to prevent it becoming established. The same technology is available to Tasmania, King and Kangarro Island to keep those free of varroa. The same technology is able to detect risk species of alien bees in areas throughout Australia

Applications

Government agencies and industry groups responsible for biosecurity.
