This is a device designed as a tool for pediatric patients to practice for pulmonary function testing at home.

• This technology is designed for pediatric use which addresses the scarcity of the pediatric spirometry devices that are on the market. • The device can be taken home to practice with until the next appointment to test pulmonary function for the pediatric patient. • This device is a much cheaper alternative to other devices on the market. • The design utilizes a mouthpiece consistent with that of the spirometry test. This design is also what children are familiar with in terms of respiratory equipment, so design basics were incorporated into the solution. • The described technology includes a one-way valve to prevent backflow, as consistent with the actual spirometry test. This design forces the user to only exhale and practice effectively for the test. • This device is disposable. Once the pediatric patient has successfully completed the spirometry test, this practice device will no longer be needed, and every component of this device is disposable. • This device includes a BMP280 barometer to measure the change in air pressure to start the 6 second timer for the spirometry practice test. • The LED lights will be used as an incentive and will let the participant know when they can start the practice test. • The on/off switch will be used the same way, to preserve battery life. • The audio component directs the user to properly follow instructions to accurately perform the spirometry practice test.
