Carbon-negative, biorenewable resin compatible with existing plastic machinery, delivering performance comparable to conventional plastics
About
Loliware, an AI-driven materials innovation company, is pioneering the world’s first seaweed-based, carbon-negative resin, designed to combat the single-use plastics crisis. The company is focused on revolutionizing the carbon-intensive plastics industry, addressing climate change, and contributing to the growth of the ocean economy. Unlike conventional petroleum-based materials that persist for centuries, the parts made from Loliware's bio-renewable resin degrade within weeks to months.
Loliware’s revolutionary SEA Technology® Resins offer a sustainable solution with limitless possibilities. They can be used with existing plastics equipment to create home-compostable, circular products that contribute to the regeneration of the Earth. Tailored for the food service industry (with corresponding regulatory approvals in progress), SEA Tech® resins deliver performance on par with polypropylene—while being compatible with existing compounding, extrusion, and injection molding machinery, enabling seamless adoption without costly equipment changes. By combining drop-in compatibility, high performance, and rapid biodegradability, Loliware offers a scalable solution to reduce plastic pollution while advancing circularity.
Loliware has been recognized by TIME Magazine as one of America’s top-performing Green Tech companies, by Fast Company as a World-Changing Ideas honoree, and as Winner of the Google Single-Use Plastics Challenge, further underscoring its industry leadership.
Key Benefits
Loliware delivers the first-to-market and first-to-scale seaweed-based resins, offering businesses a true drop-in replacement for plastics without disrupting existing infrastructure. With a global IP portfolio, Loliware's resins combine performance and sustainability—home compostable, ocean-regenerative without generating micro-plastics. SEA Tech® resins are not chemically modified and are comprised of 100% FDA food contact approved excipients. This innovation enables companies to meet sustainability mandates, differentiate their brand, and future-proof their business. Proof of impact is already in motion: SEA Tech® 100 is fully licensed and deployed, SEA Tech® 201 is adopted and scaling, and SEA Tech® 300/400 are in R&D with strong customer demand. By adopting Loliware’s resins, businesses gain a high-performing material and a chance to lead transition toward a circular economy.
Loliware’s resins are 3rd-party lab verified as 100% plastic-free and compliant under the European Commission Regulation (EU) 10/2011 and Directive (EU) 2019/904 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
Beyond environmental gains, demand for seaweed-based products also promotes ocean farming in coastal communities, many of which are women- or minority-owned. These underwater farms regenerate marine ecosystems by filtering water, capturing carbon, and restoring biodiversity — while supporting jobs and socio-economic well-being.
Applications
Single-use items in the food service industry and packaging, including straws, utensils, and other formats made through injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming, and film-forming. Products have been validated by top manufacturers for food-contact and packaging applications, demonstrating performance comparable to PP, PS, and HDPE. Two SEA Tech® resin grades for extrusion and injection molding are now available for global distribution for the mass manufacture of two demonstration products: five straw types and a utensil set. Both products are new-to-world.
By 2026, eight additional SEA Tech® resin grades will enable plastics manufacturers worldwide to replace conventional plastics at scale across a wide range of processes and products.
