Technology Florida International University (FIU) is pursuing commercial partners interested in developing and commercializing new microfluidic devices for the detection of Biomolecules biological Fluids at point of care.  FIU researchers have developed an easy to operate and portable detector device usable as a method of measuring the concentration of an analyte in fluid. This device has been tested for the detection of cortisol in biological fluids. Currently, there are no point-of-care (POC) technologies available for quantitative antibody based assays for the detection of cortisol. The laboratory based existing methods are costly, requires analytic time and highly skilled personnel to operate these systems.  Those techniques also have the limitation of potential sample miss handle, miss labeled or loss. The high degree of automation of the FIU technology can help to cope with the errors and limitations often associated with human handling. Researchers at FIU have discovered a microfluidic device and method that can improve the health care delivery by enabling better diagnostics, better treatment surgeries, and monitoring critical physiological variables on a daily basis at point of care.
