About

Covid-19 Time of Intubation Mortality Evaluation (C-TIME) Tech ID: UA22-015 Invention: This invention describes software that uses a scoring system for calculating the probable mortality of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia at the time they require mechanical ventilation. Background: Worldwide there have been over 208 million cases of severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and over 4.37 million of these cases resulted in death of the patient. In the United States alone there have been nearly 37 million cases of SARS-CoV-2. Although, as of August 2021, 51% of the population has been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, it is still imperative that treatments be available because rates of vaccine skepticism remain high. This leaves millions of people still unprotected from SARS-CoV-2. Currently, with the delta variant in wide circulation and vaccination rates lagging, there are still many hospitalized patients who face the risk of being put on a ventilator (intubated) which vastly decreases their chances of mortality. This invention will help to determine the risk of mortality when patients are intubated.

Key Benefits

- Helps predict death in patients with SARS-CoV-2 - Gives a prognosis of a patient’s recovery when put on a ventilator

Applications

Mortality evaluation tool for intubated COVID patients
