About

A Diagnostic Marker for Matrix Metalloprotease (MMP)-2 and -9 Activity in Cancer Tissue Description This invention is a method for the identification of MMP enzyme activity in tissue. MMPs are involved in tumour progression and therefore are targets for anti-cancer drug therapies. However, most drug therapies directed at inhibition of MMPs have failed, in part, because there is no reliable biomarker to determine MMP activity in tissue. This invention provides a reliable diagnostic tool to monitor MMP activity for clinical trials of MMP inhibitors. Commercial Application Diagnostic tool for monitoring MMP activity for anti-MMP therapies Technological Advantage The existing technology to identify the activity of MMPs is in sito zymography, which can be used only on a fresh frozen section, utilizes fluorescent technique, needs many controls to know the precise locations of the activity and is difficult to analyse.  Our technology can be used on a paraffin embedded as well as fresh frozen sections, is easy to localize, and is reproducible.
