A core technology which enables higher energy per pulse amplification than is possible with doped fibre amplifiers whilst retaining an ultra-narrow linewidth.

About

The Advanced Lasers Group specialise in the physics and engineering of diode-pumped solidstate and semiconductor lasers. In 2009, members of the team were awarded the Thales/Scottish Enterprise Scottish Technology Prize for laser engineering. The group has established a strong track record in the field and a sound portfolio of related IP. The Group have now developed a core technology which enables higher energy per pulse amplification than is possible with doped fibre amplifiers whilst retaining an ultra-narrow linewidth. Technology Novel implementation of a laser Raman amplification technique: • Works for pulsed laser systems • Operates over a wide range of discrete wavelengths • Amplifies and wavelength shifts an input beam, whilst • Retaining a high beam quality and ultra-narrow line width.

Key Benefits

• Ultra-narrow kHz to MHz linewidth: Enabling high specificity and low cross-sensitivity remote sensing. • High pulse energy: Ideal for long-range, high sensitivity applications. • Ultra-stable peak wavelength and line width: High pulse-to-pulse repeatability improves measurement accuracy and enables a robust system suitable for a wide range of ambient environments. • High energy efficiency: Up to 4x greater efficiency than OPO-based lasers making this source ideal for portable systems.

Applications

Potential applications which would benefit from an ultra-narrow linewidth at near infrared wavelengths: • Doppler LiDAR, wind energy • Atmospheric monitoring • Aviation safety • Environmental and meteorological observations • Airborne and geospatial mapping • Pollution monitoring Differential LIDAR (DIAL)
