Investigators have developed a biodegradable polymer nerve guide which locally delivers bioactive neurotropic factors in the proper concentration.

About

Technology: Investigators have developed a biodegradable polymer nerve guide which locally delivers bioactive neurotropic factors in the proper concentration to cross from the proximal to distal nerve stump. Delivery of a neurotropic factor may enhance nerve regeneration and could be used to overcome the current limitations in nerve repair across large defects. This double-walled microsphere delivery system for bioactive Glial Cell Line-Derived Neurotropic Factor (GDNF) has a sustained release profile greater than 50 days in vitro.
