Piklema Driver Assistant is the real-time digital audio and visual adviser for dump truck operators that provides optimal performance suggestions during the driving on mine’s roads

About

Piklema Driver Assistant is based on the collection and analysis of information on fuel consumption rate from engine diagnostic system (liters per hour), loading, elevation height, downtime, driving routes conditions and other information received from the CAN bus interface of a dump truck, as well as integrated data from the existing Fleet Management System (FMS). In case the fuel rate is not available in CAN bus interface the additional flow meters can be installed. The optimal driving speed and acceleration zones on individual sections of each route are determined using Artificial intelligence and mathematical modeling and include information about the required optimal entry speed to the next section (for example, acceleration before slope), taking into account the maximum allowed speed (safety) and average driving speed (to maintain or increase the productivity of hauling). A Digital recommendation map (DAM) for mining roads is automatically developed by machine learning algorithms. This map is uploaded into the on-board controller. When the dump truck moves along the route the GPS coordination, speed, acceleration and direction of movement is compared with the DAM points and corresponding notification is being displayed and played for a driver. The system uses GSM or local WiFi network for data transferring between a server and an on-board controller. In case the network coverage is not available on some parts of a mine the on-board controller stores a data and transmits the data when connection is available. The DAM is uploaded to the controller when network is available and operates even in blind zones so the system can be used in all mining road even with lack of coverage. Piklema Driver Assistant uses ready-made machine learning algorithms for mining trucks that process the data from CAN interface of a truck, GPS data, acceleration sensors, payload, weather etc. The algorithms create the map of the roads, optimal driving behavior profile, drivers rating, fuel analytics and provide the optimal drivers notification zones that are uploaded to a on-board computer and notify drivers while going on the roads.

Key Benefits

Benefits: • Decrease fuel consumption up to 10 % • Increase everage speed up to 3 % What are the technical benefits for the customer and the user? Piklema Driver Assistant includes ready-made Artificial intelligence algorithms that automatically creates graph of the mining roads, optimal driving profile and notification zones, fuel analytics. The ready made machine learning algorithms enables fast implementation - total 3-4 months including installation training and testing. Driver Assistant is the step to autonomy after the mine implement Fleet Management System (FMS provides the routes optimization – tells “where to go” to optimize productivity and blending). With Piklema Driver Assistant we tell “how to drive” to reduce fuel consumption and increase average speed. The driver is still in a cabin but uses the best practice continuously. We apply A/B testing to evaluate the pure efficiency from the system - compare the driving behavior and fuel efficiency on the same conditions - we give the advises for the part of the drivers and collects the performance of the other without the advises. This method is widely used in different industries and firstly introduced by for fuel efficiency. Summary: - Ready-made machine learning algorithms for optimal driving - New system for mining - one step to autonomy - driver is still in cabin - machine learning thinks instead of driver. - A|B testing methodology for fuel efficiency What advantages does the innovation lead to for the user? Efficient driving by leveraging best practicies for each part of the road Can you quantify the value you create or save by using your innovation? 5-10 % decrease of fuel burn (savings: 20-40 k USD annualy per truck) Does your innovation create any additional value? Yes, we teach operators in realtime to keep the best driving behaviour and drive safe and efficient Does your innovation create value or benefits for more stakeholders in the intended value chain for the product or service? We could provide additional values for the technical maintenence team, due to proper speed and acceleratoin (decrease tires ware, keep engine and other parts of the truck)

Applications

Mining industry. Mining companies operates in severe climatic conditions, difficult mining and geological conditions (far north, deserts) and Lack of qualified personnel in remote areas (Far North, Deserts (Australia, Morocco, Mongolia) etc. In average drivers influence up to 15 % on fuel burn. in 10-15 years, when autonomous trucks will be a regular technology, not a pilot solution, those challange could be deminish by themselves, but now we already could leverage driving behaviour as autonomous trucks without descluding operator from the cabine with no capital intensive infrastructure. Global implementing of AI (Piklema Driver Assistant as an example) could inspired a lot of youth and engineers for making the industry better (safety, more intelligent and prestigious). Population density in mining area in 1000 times low, then in other regions and we have to bring new approaches for the industry already today. Driver Assistant addresses the majority of the material sustainability issues in the mining industry (ecological impact, acces and affordability, divercity and inclution, material sourcing and efficiency, best labor practicies).
