This invention defines a method whereby a conventional injectable drug for local administration is mixed with a drug supplement, a pre-coated lipid thin film (e.g. dried lipids on glass bottles), immediately before administration, to form liposomal encapsulation for controlled and typically slow release. The mixing process is controlled by a device, and this method does not require high encapsulation rate, nor separation of non-entrapped drug from the mixture. This method can also be used to encapsulate a number of other single or mixtures of proteins/growth factors for controlled slow release.
