DURASEAL is a hand-applied encasement system. Enables teams that have exposed an escape to make a repair without cutting the flow, keeping customers connected and the pipeline clean. The resultant repair withstands significant movement making it suitable for all types of metallic and plastic pipes. It will last for more than 50 years. Developed in the UK. With sponsorship from Cadent Gas and Wales & West Utilities, a successful project, in its final stages is proving the ability and longevity of DURASEAL as a permanent repair for gas mains, pipes and joints. KITEMARK grant is expected mid-2021. DURASEAL creates a mechanical seal that relies on compression to squeeze a plugging compound into the leak path. The repair concept is made up of three primary elements: a plug, held by compression and protected by encasement. The embodiment of these elements is a silicone, non-curing mastic, compressed with a high-grade silicone self-amalgamating tape, encased in fibreglass with a water-activated binder. It is unique because the seal is created by compression, not adhesion. It takes the best attributes of a pipe clamp and a composite repair to create a seal that is strong, yet extremely flexible and self-healing.
