Virtual flavour allows users to accurately experience what the resultant flavour of a recipe would be before all the time and cost to produce it.

About

Virtual Flavour provides users sufficient multisensory cues (taste, mouthfeel, aroma) through a safe, controlled, and repeatable computer simulation, so that they perceive a virtual flavour as equivalent to the benchmark real flavour. This allows people to "experience" a drink or food from a recipe, through the simulation, including via a soft squirt of taste on the tongue and aroma to the nose, without the need to have produced the real food or drink from the recipe. Since the virtual flavour is an authentic representation of the equivalent real flavour, if people like the virtual flavour then they can be confident that they will enjoy the real food or drink when it has been prepared from the recipe.

Key Benefits

Our virtual flavour system, which we term FlaVR, will provide a step change for understanding the flavours of recipes from a book or television. Instead of having to first create the food or drink from the recipe, FlaVR can: -Use a single device to deliver accurately simulations of all the flavours in the recipe book; -allow users to investigate their own flavours, perhaps altering a recipe to achieve a flavour which they prefer more Furthermore, by being confident that they will like a recipe before they buy the ingredients or spend time following it, people, can reduce the waste of a food or drink prepared, not liked and simple thrown away.
