increases stability of power grids with intermittent power sources, facilitates the use of renewable energy

About

The growing penetration of intermittent renewable energy in power grids (such as solar and wind) is causing instabilities in the electrical network. The electric spring has been developed to facilitate the adoption of intermittent renewable energies by improving the voltage/frequency stability across the grid. The electric spring will allow a greater proportion of our energy to come from renewable sources. The technology has been developed by an international team with scientists from the UK and Hong Kong and is now available for licensing.
