Description: A new method for the in situ synthesis of nanomaterials on generic substrates has been invented.  Electron-initiated reactions, including vapor/precursor dissociation or charge-transfer reactions, for the synthesis of a wide variety of nanomaterials, including metals and semiconductors can now be controlled without the need for vacuum pump or external gas source.  Nanomaterial can be directly patterned on electronic or advance diagnostic chips.  This new approach to synthesizing Nanonmaterials will enable the rapid production of devices for a wide variety of applications.
