Prithvi AI aims to deploy an AI-driven plantation-site recommendation system to assist the field officers in the HPFD. The module will study a wide array of relevant parameters, over large areas of land and generates reports on expected plant-survival rates and plantation health. The idea is to establish a sustainable system for continuous afforestation in Himachal Pradesh, India and then scale it up to encompass all of India. The AI will take help from past data of plantations, and social and ecological factors that enhance plantation-health in these forestry landscapes in order to predict the likelihood of plantation-success and viability.

Key Benefits

To deal with the massive challenge of tackling climate change, Prithvi AI takes advantage of advanced AI/ML algorithms, detailed satellite data, and extensive stores of land-survey data to provide recommendations on which areas of land will support high plant-survival rates and plantation health. We also ensure that each compartment our modules suggest for plantation has a large enough area and suitable landscape to support sustainable and long-term plant and tree growth. Our objective is to create an AI-based recommendation system for the field officers in the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department. The app will help the field officers in evaluating the viability of a specific landmass when being considered for plantation activities.  In the current phase, our AI-based solution can provide insights about the expectations of survival rate of plants in a compartment, and can take feedback regarding those insights from the respective officers. The inherent machine learning predictive model of the solution will incorporate these feedbacks as part of its training over time and deliver better, more accurate insights.

Planting trees in most suitable sites will not only improve the likelihood of the success of these plantations but also enables huge cost-savings for the Indian Government by deploying Prithvi AI systems that deliver a reliable and scientific workflow, transparency in decision-making processes, and accountability in afforestation.
