Addition of protein binding site via graft reaction to nanofibrous PSU arrays for the removal of protein bound uremic toxins during dialysis

Technical Textiles Research Centre (TTRC) have previous experience of using plasma technology and subsequent grafting reactions for adding complex molecules to nanofibrous surfaces, In this context a specific protein binding site would be added to the biocompatible polysulfone (PSU) surface via graft addition to bind the entire protein bound uremic toxin (PBUT) complex and thus remove it from the patients blood. The PSU membrane will be created via electrospinning leading to the formation of nanofibres and thus an extremely high surface area to volume ratio to enhance filtration. It is envisaged that the functionalised membrane could be added as an inline module to existing dialysis equipment reducing the need for capital outlay. Ref - 10.1088/2053-1591/ab35f3
