Flexible photovoltaic films for energy harvesting, based on organic and sustainable materials produced through low carbon footprint roll-to-roll printing processes

About

The technology developed by Ribes Tech is a process for the roll-to-roll printing of organic PV modules with unique features: they are flexible, lightweight, recycling-compatible and do not contain any toxic or scarce materials. Such properties make our films a sustainable alternative for powering small electronics, thus offering a solution to extend the lifespan of rechargeable battery-powered devices through light harvesting, even in indoor environments with low illumination levels. The extreme lightness and conformability to different kinds of surfaces enable the integration of our PV devices on a wide range of products and designs, allowing to optimize the available surface for energy harvesting.

Key Benefits

Our PV films offer endless power to wireless sensors and devices by harvesting energy from both artificial light and sunlight. These films can both replace batteries or be used in combination with rechargeable ones in order to provide recharging power during light exposure. The main advantage offered to our customers is the possibility to eliminate maintenance issues from wireless devices applications. As these are kept charged by energy harvesting, neither replacing nor recharging of batteries is required. On top of this, our offer reduces the environmental footprint of IoT installations. Not only lifetime of batteries is extended or smaller batteries can be used, but also there are no toxic or rare elements and not even one obtained by mining incorporated into our organic photovoltaic films. In addition these advantages come with no constraints to product design. Our PV films are available in custom shapes and colors and therefore can adapt to product design; they can be even used as defining graphic elements in the overall design.

Applications

IoT nodes, RF beacons, wireless sensors, remote controls, smart locks and in general any electronic applications requiring portable power sources, such as batteries, to operate.
