Barrier Papers are designed with additional coating layers that provide a decent barrier against water vapour, oil & grease, oxygen/aroma. Fully recyclable and food compliant.

About

Functional, recyclable barrier papers for packaging represent a clear technological leap for our industrial partner delfort. So far, Delfort has only produced special papers without additional, functional coatings. In the flexible packaging industry, only non-recyclable plastic films or multi-layer laminates made of plastic, paper and metal are currently used to guarantee the necessary durability, especially for food (state of the art before innovation). Ultra-thin, aqueous dispersion coatings on paper are a clear first in the industry and are being researched intensively worldwide. What is certainly new compared to the competition is that DELSCI mixes/formulates these coatings itself and applies them to delfort paper using special coating processes. These barrier papers are also very thin (50-60µm) compared to current competitors with the same barrier performance. In a non-technological sense, the type of development cooperation between delfort (industrial partner) and DELSCI (independent development company) is also new in the industry. Furthermore, DELSCI's holistic and agile/iterative development approach across the entire value chain - material development (paper and barrier layers), technology development (coating), process development (printing, packaging) and application development (with customers / brand owners) - is new as part of a design thinking approach.
