The exhaust strokes from each side of a cylinder are captured, re-compressed under the system pressure of the exhaust stroke and introduced to the system as fresh energy.

Compressed air is a very convenient form of energy but it is very expensive with as little as 20% of the input power becoming useful motion energy.
