This technology, instead, utilizes a small molecule drug that is not variable and is inexpensive.

About

Summary Currently, large orthopedic fractures (>3mm) presents a challenge clinically as proliferation of cells that differentiate into osteochondral cell types is required to heal the fracture. This technology provides a method, using a specific molecule, for inducing the proliferation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) in vitro. This increased proliferation has potential applications in regenerative medicine by providing a means for the robust expansion of in vivo transplanted patient-specific stem cells and providing homogeneous, multipotent cells for differentiation and tissue evolution.
