Researchers in the team investigating hybrid plastics have developed a novel class of modified aniline polymers that have strongly anti-microbial and anti-oxidant properties.

About

The Technology: In the last decade, several papers have been published in scientific literature identifying limited anti-microbial and anti- oxidant properties of polymerised aniline, a semi-conducting polymer. However, being an exceptionally difficult material to process, polyaniline has been of little practical use so far. Now our researchers have discovered a new class of modified aniline polymers which have exceptional anti-microbial activity and are easily combined with conventional plastics.   Applications: Packaging for raw meat – especially chicken, fish and pork Juice and drink packaging to extend shelf-life Conveyor belts for food processing Wound dressings Anti-microbial surface coatings in hospitals and factories Sanitary, disposable clothing and other products next to human skin Ear buds, earphones and hearing aids Water supply systems Air-conditioning filters Timber preservative Marine industry Colour additive
