Background: This invention inhibits a gene that has the potential to cause cancer. They are found in high quanities in tumor cells. BYU has discovered a multiple drug resistant gene for a cancer patient developing resistance to chemotherapeutic drug treatment. A small molecular drug to suppress this gene could make it possible for chemotherapy to continue to the benefit of the patient. BYU is seeking a biotech or pharma partner to assist in drug discovery and drug development. About the Market: Cancer patients, hospitals, and cancer treatment centers would all be part of the target market. Currently there is no available therapeutic approach to inhibit 14-3-3z in cancer. Our discovery makes it possible to inhibit 14-3-3z in cancer cells either via HDAC6 inhibition (for which there is a drug currently in the clinic) or GCN5L l activation.
