Key Benefits

Our system allows for the management of intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power in hydrogen production with backup from the grid. One of the primary benefits of Adaptive Hydrogen’s system is its ability to minimise operational energy costs. Our technology achieves this by forecasting and smartly allocating energy usage and selecting the most cost-effective power source available to meet offtake commitments, whether it be directly from renewable sources, battery storage, or the grid. We also manage the onsite storage of hydrogen. This intelligent selection process can lead to substantial financial savings, which is crucial for the economic viability of hydrogen production. For instance, our simulations have demonstrated that for a 10MW facility, our system can yield annual energy cost savings of up to $AUD1.15 million (£0.6 million) when compared to standard operation strategies. Our solution extends beyond energy cost savings. By enabling facilities to operate more efficiently and with greater flexibility, it enhances the overall economic viability of hydrogen production. Facilities can adapt to market conditions, operating primarily during periods when electricity costs are at their lowest. Moreover, our system’s predictive capabilities allow for strategic planning, including maintenance activities and potential revenue generation through the export of excess renewable energy to the grid. A significant challenge in the hydrogen industry is the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources. Our system directly addresses this by ensuring a more consistent production schedule, reducing the risk of contractual penalties, and bolstering the facility’s reputation for reliability. It offers a buffer against the unpredictability of renewable generation, which is essential for maintaining a steady supply chain and meeting off-take agreements.  At the core of our system lies a robust data analysis framework that provides real-time insights and forecasts. This feature empowers facility operators to make informed decisions, optimising electrolyser dispatch, storage utilisation, and delivery schedules. This precise control over operations leads to increased efficiency and a better alignment with the dynamic energy market. Our system is designed not just to meet the current demands of energy production but to align with the global trajectory towards clean and sustainable energy. It supports the goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and moving towards a net-zero energy system. A feature of our system is the carbon accounting and reporting associated with hydrogen production. By contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint of energy-intensive hydrogen production, our technology plays a critical role in the clean energy transition and grid support through intelligent control of large hydrogen demand.
