Novel Detectors of Ionizing Radiation Technology Opportunity Florida International University (FIU) is pursuing a commercial partner interested in developing Novel Detectors of Ionizing Radiation. Ionizing radiation has many industrial, military, and medical uses including sterilization of surfaces and solutions, as well as in medical imaging. Alanine pellets and ceric cerous solution are traditionally used as dosimeters to measure radiation exposure levels required for sterilization of medical products. Researchers at FIU have discovered a new radiation indicator by using a different class of compounds that undergoes a distinct green to red change in the presence of free radicals. The compound is coated to a support surface that can undergo radiation damage and serve as a free radical source. We are looking for a commercial partner to further develop these detectors of ionizing radiation. Applications Monitor radiation exposure in medical, research and industrial settings.
