System built specifically for MIS, better visualisation, intrinsic haptic feedback, greater safety to patients, easy manoeuvrability, use of intuituve motion for control

About

The iSnake Surgical System is a device suite designed specifically for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). Protected by a family of patents, the system consists of several ground breaking technologies to aid surgeons employing MIS. These include a novel joint design, an augmented reality system, and a novel control system. MIS, based on laparoscopy, has seen an increase in popularity due to its increased safety and reduced post-surgery recovery time compared to conventional surgery. However, current MIS employs rigid tools, which hinder navigation, and forces surgeons to use unintuitive movements. Endoscopic devices can be adapted but still present problems with navigation and providing surgeons with feedback from the surgical site. The iSnake provides more feedback, better navigation, and more intuitive control, thus improving safety and accuracy in surgery. The system is currently at the prototype stage and is available for licensing.
