We have developed a lignin based solution for oil collection and herding. The solution provides a cost-effective, rapid and ecofriendly approach to large scale oil spills.

Key Benefits

The lignin nanoparticle based oil-herding technology developed in our lab has a competitive advantage over other available products by a significant degree of differentiation. Our proposed material will have a superior biocompatibility over any available product on the market at a lower cost. This advantage will have a four-fold impact on the current state of the post oil-spill management: (1) Ease in getting permissions from governmental regulatory bodies for application in the environment. (2) Use of our product in both on-shore and in-land oil spills, which is not the case for currently available oil herders. (3) Minimizing water pollution, and downtime for fish industry, hence significant reduction in environmental, economic and societal impact of oil spills, and (4) Minimum capital requirement for both manufacturing the herder from abundant and inexpensive lignin raw material, and adopting the technology by current industry as it does not require any change in machinery and infrastructure.
