We are developing an infrastructure that will allow us to gamify the collection of any type of crowdsourced data in the future - The Gamification of Things.

About

Litta is turning mobile gamers into citizen scientists. We are creating a new category of mobile gaming - Play2Save - with our mobile game LittaHunters (www.littahunt.co.uk). Over 4 million hours are spent every day playing mobile games just here in the UK, yet almost none of those have a positive impact in the real world. With GenZ now spending more time playing games than any other leisure time activity, there is no better medium for engaging this generation in sustainable behaviour change. Our proposed solution gives individuals the tools to tackle litter in their local community, local authorities the data to make informed decisions and brands the platform to engage an increasingly sustainably minded consumer.

Key Benefits

Key benefits include: A wealth of public perception data around litter Highly detailed hotspot mapping, allowing local authorities to develop services in a more bespoke fashion Litter type evaluation – allowing targeting of specific waste producers or problem businesses in a targeted fashion Engaging children and young people in the environment around them Cultivating an interest in community litter picking Heightening environmental consciousness at community level Easily scalable Massive target audience - UN Playing for the Planet estimates the worldwide gaming community at 2.5 billion people.

Applications

The primary market we are looking to target is the local authority waste management sector. Secondary markets include the UK gaming market and the brand sponsorship and partnership market. Local Authorities in London alone spent over £200m in 2019 on street cleaning (Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government), yet only 53% have any litter bin strategy/policy in place, highlighting the potential for identifying cost saving measures and improvements in this area. We are really excited about some of the regulations that will be coming in in the UK over the next couple of years that will massively benefit what we are doing. Government Deposit Return Scheme - our crowdsourced data could help with identifying the best locations for returns and RVMs, education of consumers around the upcoming schemes, digital wallet to store rewards and donate. The game will become like a real life treasure hunt, with the expected deposit for each bottle and can set at between 10-20p. Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme (expected to cost producers between £500m-£1bn a year) - our data will help to either police the scheme and hold brands to account for where their products end up or, working with producers, we can help reduce their liability under the scheme by identify their littered products and implementing initiatives to reduce this.
