About

Cumulus Energy Storage has patent granted in 10 countries, for rechargeable Copper/Zinc battery energy storage. Designed for long duration, high energy applications it is ideal for enabling more renewable electricity to be generated, stored and delivered at the time it is needed. This is particularly important for electricity intensive industries such as mining, cement production and of course Tarmac. Cumulus makes the battery cells and packages them in shipping containers (or racking within buildings) to assemble the energy storage system. To date we've raised £4.8m including £1.9m of UK government grants.

Key Benefits

Green: Low-cost, 99.5% recyclable, no supply-chain issues or materials availability as the main components are Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Copper, Zinc and water. Safe: operates at ambient temperature, with huge thermal mass (round 60 tonnes of liquid electrolyte) with low energy density. Applications: stationary energy storage applications, particularly commercial renewables generation, energy management in electricity intensive industries (such as electrification of the mining industry and diesel engine genset replacement) and transmission/distribution scenarios including micro-grids. Complementary: Complements rather than competes with Lithium-ion. Scalable: Automotive assembly plant operations based in each continent will facilitate global scaling of Copper/Zinc energy storage.
