Invention LEDoS’ innovative “Light Emitting Diodes on Silicon” technology is based on integration of mature CMOS IC technology and LED technology. LEDoS chip is a self-emitting integrated high resolution pixel display with control circuits on one single semiconductor chip using mature LED/CMOS process and flip-chip technology. That means separated light sources (incandescent/high pressure lamp or LEDs) and extra optical components (beam splitter/combiner and color wheel) are no longer required. We can potentially produce far better image quality and higher efficiency than traditional 3LCD and new Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) because the intrinsic light absorption in polarizer and liquid crystal on LCD or LCOS is eliminated. LEDoS can achieve lower power consumption as we can selectively turnoff the pixels. In addition, the silicon IC substrate presents a good thermal conductive medium, the heat generated from LED pixels can be better dissipated through the silicon IC substrate to the external cooling system. Marketing Opportunity Projection-based display devices have not been adopted for digital retailing applications as traditional light source for projectors can only last for several thousand hours. Thanks to the recent development of high brightness LED light source, projection unit can now have lifetime in excess of 50,000 hours.
