Improved light collection, greater endoscope flexibility and higher resolution

About

Laser scanning microconfocal endoscopes offer significant advantages over traditional optical and video endoscopes, including optical sectioning and superior image quality. However, these devices are restricted by the size of required equipment and effects caused by the optical fibre bundles used. We have a granted patent for a miniaturised microconfocal endoscope technology. The device employs a special light phase modulator to scan 3D objects without the need for an objective lens or focusing mechanism. The advantages to the new design are improved light collection, greater endoscope flexibility and higher resolution. This invention has numerous uses in early cancer diagnosis, surgery, and clinical research and is now available for licensing.
