About

Description of Technology This patented technology provides MRI coils with superior signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for various anatomical structures. These coil designs can provide improved SNR as compared with conventional phased-array, volume and surface coils. A key design element is the use of multiple overlapping coil elements of different sizes (refer figure above) which are controlled without the need for a pre-amplifier. The sensitivity profile of this novel coil design as applied to cochlear imaging is compared with various conventional and commercial coils. The graph illustrates the dramatic improvement in SNR, in this case at shallow depths optimized for cochlear imaging. This technology can be adapted to create a family of coils with varying number of elements, geometries, and configurations to provide superior performance for various anatomical targets.
