Expression of isoforms of Neuronal Cell Adhesion Molecule (NCAM) which contain the VASE exon have been shown to prevent CNS repair. Studies have consistently demonstrated that inhibiting NCAM-VASE signalling promotes neuronal growth and repair. This presents a target molecule for the treatment of neuronal loss due to injury, stroke, or disease.
