Increased performance and patient recovery time, but also significantly reduced operating times.

About

Description: Inventors at UAMS have developed new varieties of dermatomes with significant advancements over known products. These new designs of dermatomes are battery-powered to allow increased safety to patients and significantly reduced time requirements due to elimination of cords and the need for pressurized air. Additionally, these dermatome designs include improved adjustability of both the front guards and the depth of cut. Such improvements allow the physician to alter the width of the harvest during the cut, thereby improving the ability to excise burns and perform accurate harvests over skin and burned tissue of varying widths across their lengths. Improved depth adjustability allows excising of tissue or burns with a single pass, rather than the multiple passes required with known devices. These features not only increase performance and patient recovery time, but also significantly reduce valuable operating suite time. Further, the new dermatomes incorporate improved blades for both more accurate cuts that heal faster and provide superior sample quality, and exhibit increased blade lifespan, again saving both time and cost while providing improved patient recovery.
