Summary The current design of endotracheal tubes require multiple layers of tape around the patient’s neck to secure the tube in position. The tape is uncomfortable, and secretions from the patient’s mouth make the tape ineffective, resulting in the tube coming loose. A loose tube is inefficient and possibly dangerous.
