Summary The invention, SlideTutor, relates to an intelligent pathology training system (intelligent tutoring system) and specifically a tutoring system for microscopic diagnosis of inflammatory diseases of the skin. The system uses Artificial Intelligence to create a simulated and adaptive environment for medical training. SlideTutor is built on a generic framework for intelligent tutoring in visual classification, and is a working system for training in Dermatopathology as well as a test-bed for advancing the understanding of intelligent tutoring systems in medical domains. SlideTutor incorporates a virtual microscope and a diagrammatic reasoning palette that lets students build arguments for their diagnosis. The system provides adaptive and individualized help and spots errors as students work.
