Plurimedia unveils a native cloud solution based on the IBM cloud and OpenShift that allows utilities to remotely manage water houses and dispensers

About

Each utility must manage and maintain several water houses, dispensers and magnetic card dispensers in its territory. Often they are from different manufacturers and for this reason unified management is often a problem. Each managed object (water house, dispenser...) has a set of information and assets useful for a functional management, information such as municipality, address, geolocation, date of inauguration, date of installation, images, documents, etc... For each water house and for each dispenser, the utilities need to carefully monitor in real time all the interventions made in order to detect consumption and maintenance, but above all they must be able to control and communicate to the citizenship the quality of the water supplied by each object whether it is a house or a dispenser. With PluriH2O - cloud-native application based on IBM cloud and OpenShift - it is possible to manage all this information and in addition, if the water houses are equipped with monitors, it is possible to remotely manage the information and videos to be shown on the monitor of each house thanks to some IOT components prepared by Plurimedia and installed at the individual assets (water houses, dispensers ...).

Key Benefits

The exponential growth in the number of water houses (+40% per year) and the demand for additional and increasingly complex features forces the client to look for a unique solution that can adapt to all his needs, ensuring easy expandability of the services offered. Moreover, the solution must necessarily be scalable and highly reliable. PluriH2O was developed primarily with these key points in mind, so that it could respond perfectly to the customer's needs, but at the same time maintain the degree of flexibility necessary to keep pace with estimated growth rates. Thanks to PluriH2O Utility has achieved a reduction in direct costs for the maintenance and management of water houses of about 40%. Centralization ensures immediate accessibility to the system and avoids costly duplication of data and maintenance, freeing up resources that can be used for higher value-added activities. The interconnection of the system, through cloud technologies, also allows stakeholders outside the company to have free access and be able to directly modify the content reserved for them, once again eliminating an expensive process, that was also highly prone to errors and delays. Finally, by exploiting the full potential of the Cloud and IoT, a very high level of content customization can be achieved, each water house can show the most relevant data and information for citizens in that geographical area, transmitting targeted messages and information. Stakeholders will therefore be able to enjoy an indirect effect on their ability to communicate with end customers (i.e. citizens), offering a cutting-edge service at practically no cost except the cost of the resources dedicated to the production and updating of the contents themselves.

Applications

Plurimedia developed the PLURIH2O solution,is cloud-native and offers the client a compact, user-friendly, dashboard to manage a vast array of microservices built on the client’s management needs. The number of microservices is easily increased without any change to the underlying structure. With the use of IoT technology microservices can be instantly deployed to every contact point with the final customer (the distribution stations), without incurring in any issue linked to the non-standardization of the single distribution station, guaranteeing great value added, both for Utilities companies and for its stakeholders and customers.
