The formulation is mixed and the spatial distribution of individual components analysed to determine the mixing quality. A low value indicates segregation and a need to reformulate
About
This enables the rate and extent of powder segregation during processing to be estimated with a small sample. A high tendency to segregate indicates reformulation is needed, e.g. by varying particle size distribution or introducing additives. This is critical for powder products as size/shape/density etc. differences between individual components lead to segregation during handling processes, meaning the fraction of each components deviates from the formulation recipe.
Key Benefits
By using this innovation a new formula that is not prone to segregation can be quickly developed and tested at lab scale. This improves product quality, reduces downtime and failed batches, and so leads to improved process efficiency.
Applications
Any powder-based formulation, e.g. pharmaceuticals, foods, detergents, agrochemicals, paints/pigments.
