The benefits of card linking are that it's the easiest and most user friendly form of transaction data capture for the customer as all they need to do is to connect their card once. However, the downside is that basket data is not captured and the technology also isn't available in some markets. On the other hand, receipt scanning is not as frictionless but it is available in any language and market.
