FLITE's patented technology allows us to sculpt a functional nanotexture on the surface of glass, metal, plastics and other solid materials. Some textures are self-cleaning, or oil repellent, and one particular texture is antibacterial. The microscopic formations destroy bacteria, viruses and spores as they shred the organism's cell wall. For most manufactured devices, the texture is quite durable, especially when applied to hard glasses, thermoset polymers, and metals.

Unlike today's coatings, which use silver and other ions to damage the organisms, this approach requires zero added chemistry and is completely harmless to humans. The permanent result is also impervious to heat, radiation, or cold, so it can be applied to appliances like ovens and dishwashers where other coatings can't survive. Since there is no coating, there is also no concern about environmental regulations, food safety or end-of-life disposal concerns.
